Same here. "life your skinny fists" is definitely my fav. I have a shirt with the logo from that cd on the front. I love the first track of disc 2. I think the entire track is called "Sleep". i dunno, i cant keep the song titles on that cd straight.

YES! Disc two is also my favorite, and I can never find the track names, so I just leave them untitled in my head. It kind of keeps them safe from labels because they're so fucking genius.

Have you ever seen them live?

Yes! I've had the privelege of seeing them live in Columbia, Missouri (about 2 hours from me). It was great, a friend of mine who was into them went with me and we had a blast. The place was small, and you could stand buck up against the stage. There was only one person between me and the stage. It was great!

I mean sure lift yr skinny... is their greatest album, but all of them are really beautiful...yes, even Yanqui, the underappreciated bastard child.

It's a push between Yanqui U.X.O. and Lift Your Skinny Fists. That weenie preacher guy on "The Buildings They Are Sleeping Now" is some of the weirdest shit ever!

I was ready to post that my favorite album was "He has left us alone...", and my favorite track was "13 angels standing guard 'round the side of your bed", and then I remembered that it's a Silver Mt Zion album :)
I'm a big fan of "Yanqui UXO" too, although some tracks on "Lift your skinny fists..." are amazing too.

I recently went to the awesome record shop in Vienna called Substance www.substance-store.com/ to buy another godspeed album, just whatever else there is, and bought something else by accident.

I suspect everybody else knows all this already, but the name of the cd is lovely and worth repeating: From Cells of Roughest Air, by the Mile End Ladies String Auxiliary. It is instrumental, but that is as far as genre similarity goes. It is classical music, but intense, not minimalistic like Cage or Glass. The violin is so repetitive and heavy handed it could be the guitarist from Interpol.

Love the cardboard artwork of these albums too. Its very natural, which makes sense for the MELSE lable Bangor, in Canada, but not so much for the GYBE label Kranky in IL - I wonder if the group has an ecological, recycling bent.

*Lift Yr. Skinny Fists like Antennas to Heaven* is definitely my favorite album of all time. Those four pieces, which I interpret as an intricate and delicate cry of anger at and hope for humanity, move my heart beyond anything else I've ever heard.
